Oh the ugly truth of statistics - you can only exert your findings to the population with the same demographics as your sample population. Here’s a trick to discover the truth: ask the researchers to define everything (the study population, what they considered to be “cases”, what the considered to be “controls”, etc.). Very few studies can truly apply to the general population.
