What matters to God?
  • Don Matteo: ‎All merit lies in the will. No other sacrifice compares with the immolation of your heart. He doesn't reward for success, but for patience and hardship undergone for His sake. No success matters as much as perfect obedience, for it is this which prepares the way for the action of divine grace in your soul. It is through your weakness that He will work most powerfully to bring mercy to mankind. He knows your fear, and He wants you to come to Him and lay your head against His heart. He asks you to talk with Him as friend to friend. He says that there is much opposition and deception coming. You must expect this and not be dismayed by it. He will console you at certain times, but the greater work is to do His will in the darkness of faith. Faith is of utmost importance.

Advice from a monk.
  • Thomas Merton: Whoever you are, the land to which God has brought you is not like the land of Egypt from which you came out. you can no longer live here as you lived there. Your old life and your former ways are crucified now, and you must not seek to live any more for your own gratification, but give up your own judgement into the hands of a wise director, and sacrifice your pleasures and comforts for the love of God and give the money you no longer spend on those things, to the poor. Above all, eat your daily Bread without which you cannot live, and come to know Christ Whose Life feeds you in the Host, and He will give you a taste of joys and delights that transcend anything you have ever experienced before.

Pray

for your friends, your family, for those you don’t know. that they will have the strength and courage to judge themselves not according to the world but according to the standards of Jesus Christ.

It’s too easy to start to listen to the lies. so pray. [please].

“As fountains, mindful of their source, will strive to spring upward to the height from which they have come, even thus the river of the Precious Blood has sent its divine efficacy back to its source, the Immaculate Heart of Mary.” —

Fasting

Fasting with the heart means loving freedom more than slavery to material things. Fasting with the heart means growing in love for God who is coming, and to whom our heart calls out everyday, longing for HIm, as “the deer that yearns for living water.”

“I believe in an unlimited God and one who has revealed himself specifically. He is one who became man and rose from the dead. He is one who confounds the senses and the sensibilities, one known early on as a stumbling block. There is no way to gloss over this specification or to make Him more acceptable to modern thought. This God is the object of ultimate concern and He has a name.” —Flannery O’Connor
